Interview setting

By chance this happened to be the setting of my latest interview. On the way to the village I asked for the way, the person sitting next to the street guarding the goat said his name and: "I'm your interviewee". So I sat down and we talked. (click picture to enlarge)

Selige Sehnsucht .pt

Saudade bendita

Dí-lo a ninguêm, somente aos sábios,
Pois a multidão zomba logo:
Quero louvar o vivente
Que aspira à morte no fogo.

Nas noites de amor, em sua fresucra –
em que geraste, em que foste gerado –
apodera-se de tí um obscuro sentimento,
quando a vela silenciosa alumia.

Já não continuas prendido
nas sombras da escuridão
E arrasta-te uma nova aspiração
De gerar coisas mais altas.

Não te detêm as distâncias,
Vens a voar e a correr,
E, em fim, ávido pela luz,
Borboleta, acabas por morrer.

E enquanto não possuis
Este morrer para vir a ser
Serás apenas um torpe visitante,
Nesta terra escura.

Thousands of Hungarians are living outside the frontiers of Hungary, as a result of the redistribution of their territory after WWI. Suddenly they had a new passport and had to talk another language. They still haven't adapted to the change and there's a lot of resentment against the neighbouring countries who gained Hungarian territories. That's the background to this kind of nationalistic music. Difficult situiation, but I'm sure the worst idea is to promote nationalism and fuel the fire, as Kárpátia seems to do. Nevertheless, not understanding all they say, I must confess to be partial with regards to deep voices and all forms of longing for freedom and liberation.
